German Maritime Museum special promotions during the Maritime Days

05.08.2021

During the Maritime Days, the German Maritime Museum (DSM) / Leibniz Institute for Maritime History offers guests an exhibition premiere, extended opening hours, a museum flea market and light shows.

From Wednesday to Sunday, August 11 to 15, the DSM will be transformed into a knowledge and discovery hotspot. Guests will learn about the first findings of research into environmental hazards posed by munitions at the bottom of the North Sea in the pop-up exhibition "Toxic Legacies of War - North Sea Wrecks" from the EU project of the same name. Information pillars and multimedia games invite visitors to take on the role of researchers and virtually dive to the wreck and take samples.

The Cog Hall and the ships in the museum harbor - the harbor tug STIER, the deep-sea salvage tug SEEFALKE and the whaler RAU IX - are again regularly open to the public. On the occasion of the Maritime Days the ships are open even for two hours longer, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and thus two hours longer. In addition, visitors decide for themselves on the admission price on all five days. The GPS tour sets will once again be available to help visitors discover the museum harbor and all its outdoor exhibits. They can be borrowed free of charge at the counter in the Cog Hall.

Fans of maritime souvenirs can look forward to the DSM Museum Flea Market, which offers many maritime treasures. Every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., interested visitors can purchase maritime posters, postcards, key chains and handicraft sheets and find a bargain or two.

Every evening, the FRAME light installation bathes the extension building in a sea-blue atmosphere. The light show starts at 10 p.m. and offers passers-by and photo fans an exclusive backdrop.
