Welcome aboard!

The German Maritime Museum warmly welcomes you to this place of discovery and learning. With our visitor guidelines, we would like to provide you with some important information about our museum to ensure that your visit is as enjoyable as possible.

Opening hours and admission

The current opening hours can be found on a separate notice board. Please take public holidays and other special occasions into account when planning your visit. There is an admission charge for visiting the exhibition. The admission prices are listed on a separate notice board at the ticket office and on our website at www.dsm.museum/eintritt.

“Get ready to sail”

  • Please store your jackets, backpacks, bags, and duffel bags (larger than DIN A4) in our cloakroom or lockers.

Behavior on board

Many of our exhibits are freely accessible, without display cases or barriers. These objects are unique and therefore irreplaceable. We trust that you will behave in an understanding and considerate manner.

To protect the objects and also for your own safety, we ask you to observe the following measures:

  • Parents, teachers, group leaders, and other guardians are responsible for the appropriate behavior of the children and young people in their care.
  • Eating and drinking are permitted outside. They are not permitted in the exhibition rooms or on the ships.
  • Walkers and strollers, such as buggies, are permitted in the exhibition rooms.
  • You are welcome to borrow stools, wheelchairs, handcarts, and umbrellas during your visit.
  • Companion and assistance dogs with proof of certification are permitted in the exhibition rooms. All other animals must wait outside.
  • Photography and filming are only permitted without flash and for private use.
  • Exhibits in display cases and those marked as such, as well as works of art, may not be touched.
  • Please only use the alarm device in an emergency.
  • Children under the age of ten are welcome to visit when accompanied by an adult.
  • Instructions from the supervisory crew: We ask you to follow the instructions of the supervisory staff. This applies in particular to safety regulations.

Suggestions, comments, and complaints

Please share your suggestions or criticism with us. Contact the museum crew or write everything down on our feedback cards, which are available at the ticket office. We look forward to hearing from you.

The shallows (legal information)

  • Even if parts of the exhibition are not accessible for technical or organizational reasons, admission is still subject to a fee.
  • We accept no liability for the cloakroom and lockers.
  • If you wish to use image and video material for commercial purposes, please contact the ticket office.
  • According to the provisions of the German Civil Code (BGB), you are liable for any damage caused to museum property. This also applies to damage caused by improper use.
  • In the event of intentional or negligent use, reimbursement of costs will be required.
  • Persons who disturb or endanger the museum visit through their behavior or damage the reputation of the museum may be excluded from visiting the museum (even indefinitely) for safety and liability reasons.
