Kristin Schrimpf

"Museums are – not only, but also – places of knowledge transfer. But where does this knowledge come from? In my role at the German Maritime Museum, I am happy to not only help different target groups acces information, but also to collect knowledge from people who deal or have dealt with the sea and shipping in their professional or personal lives, and to integrate it into the museum’s work."

Kristin Schrimpf, Employee of the Education department with an focus on oral history work

About the person

Kristin Schrimpf studied Cultural Anthropology with a specialisation in Museum Studies at the University of Bonn. During her research traineeship at the Siegerlandmuseum in Siegen, she developed and curated the exhibition “Siegen. Foreign? Home?” (5 May to 29 September 2024). The exhibition placed a strong emphasis on diversity-sensitive and participatory approaches, integrating personal items and stories from people who or whose families have experienced migration into the museum’s permanent exhibition. At the German Maritime Museum, she’s now extending her experiences in collecting and integrating external perspectives, memories, and stories – with a focus on maritime life and with enthusiasm.
