At 19.04.1917 SM UC 30 was hit by mine and sank inside a British minefield near Horns Reef/ west off Jutland. 27 men were lost and 2 bodies were later washed ashore. SM UC 30 left Heligoland at 30.03.1917 and was ordered to lay mines south of Ireland. After the boat was damaged the order was cancelled on 04.04.1917 and SM UC 30 went back via Northern Route, north of Britain, and reached Lindesnes (Norway) at 19.04.1917; than headed south from Lindesnes. Last, contact at 19.04.1917 with Headquarters. Headquarters initiated search operation at 21.04.1917. This operation includes two Zeppelins, outpost boats and submarines. Search operation failed to locate ship or crew and therefore was cancelled in June 1917.
