Ships & Seafaring 1500–1800
Online lecture / Monday, November 10, 2025 / 3 p.m. / Registration
We cordially invite you to the international online lecture series Ships & Seafaring 1500–1800, which explores the fascinating maritime world of the early modern period – a joint event organized by the DSM and the Prize Papers Project (University of Oldenburg / The National Archives, UK). Join us in discovering the connection between written records and the material culture of seafaring: from legendary ships such as the Vasa, the Mary Rose, and the cog to valuable artifacts such as knitted wool sweaters from the age of sailing ships to personal letters and logbooks from the unique Prize Papers archive. Look forward to exciting lectures and discussion panels with leading experts from eight countries – from the fields of history, archaeology, museology, and climate research.
The series runs from November 10, 2025, to March 30, 2026, every Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (CET) via Zoom, and all interested parties are welcome to attend—just listen or join in the discussion! The event is organized and moderated by Lucas Haasis (DSM) and Nele Popp (Prize Papers Project).
If you would like to attend, please register by emailing Lucas Haasis (l.haasis@dsm.museum) or registering at Eventbrite via the following link. There you will also find the complete program.
