METEOR II

The oceanographic research vessel METEOR II

The Meteor II was christened in 1962 - in the middle of one of the "hottest" phases of the Cold War. It is all the more significant that this ship was designed as a purely civilian research platform. Against the background that results of marine research are always included in geopolitical considerations, the METEOR II reflects the profiling of domains of knowledge, or rather the self-image and public role of scientists in post-war Germany. In the exhibition, the ship model will simultaneously illustrate the historical development of technical aspects of German research vessels.
