Vp 801 MAX GUNDELACH

MAX GUNDELACH was registered under the fishery identification number PG 555 (PG = Geestemünde) at 16.07.1940. Since 30.08.1940, the ship was part of the 8th Outpost Boat-Flotilla (8. Vorpostenflottille) as Vp 801. The Vp 801 had order to secure a convoy at 24.07.1943. Convoy had Number 452 and included the convoy ships MÖWE, NORDIA and VASABORG; headed from river Elbe to Rotterdam. Vp 801 served as Medical Boat (Arztboot). The convoy protection was undertaken by Vp 801, Vp 803, Vp 808 (which was the lead ship of the outpost boats), Vp 809, Vp 812, UJ 1409 and minesweepers M 23, M 38, M 102, M 103, M 131, M 325, M 254, M 1902. Vp 801 was sunk at 25.07.1943, 02:58 west of Terschelling by a torpedo from a British motor torpedo boat and 11 crew members got lost.
