STEEL & BYTES - A ship is born

Just in time for Shipping Day at the end of September 2022, the DSM presents a new special exhibition: "Steel and Bytes - A Ship is Built" opens on October 1. In the immediate vicinity of the medieval wreck of the Bremen cog from 1380, the interactive model of a modern shipyard provides insights into this otherwise inaccessible location. Via five large-format screens, 3D miniature buildings and original work tools from everyday shipyard life, the installation shows that shipyards are gigantic structures of industrial shipbuilding, with meticulous planning and a multitude of professions. In the exhibition, guests not only learn about selected occupational groups and their everyday work, but also how a modern ship is built. The special exhibition is also a preview of the planned new permanent exhibition in the extension building, which will open in 2024. There, the shipyard model will serve as a prelude to the "Shipbuilding" theme area.
