DSM during the Maritime Days

    01.08.2023

The Maritime Days attract visitors to Bremerhaven from August 16 to 20 with tall ships and culinary delights, concerts and shopping incentives. Also for the German Maritime Museum (DSM) / Leibniz Institute of Maritime History it is a special event with many program points.

During the Maritime Days, the DSM attracts visitors with free admission to the Kogge Hall and the museum ships. In addition, there are morning guided tours on board: On August 17 and 19, the deep-sea salvage tug SEEFALKE can be explored, and on August 18, the whaler RAU IX. The meeting point is always at 9 a.m. in front of the corresponding ship. The number of places is limited. Registrations are possible by telephone under 0471/48207-844 or by E-Mail to besucherservice@dsm.museum.

Curator and historian Dr. Bart Holterman will lead a tour of the special exhibition "ALWAYS FURTHER - The Hanseatic League in the North Atlantic" on Sunday, August 20, starting at 3 p.m. The exhibition will examine trade relations between Bremen and Shetland from the 16th century onward.

Radio operator Marita Westphal-Blome will send messages to the world from the radio cabin of the SEEFALKE during the International Lighthouse / Lightship Weekend on August 19 and 20. Interested parties can look over her shoulder from 1 to 5:45 p.m. and try out Morse code themselves. Those who manage to send their name in short characters will receive a diploma.

The popular mini-port is also making a comeback: small and large skippers can send small ships on great journeys through the museum harbor from aboard the RAU IX.
