"Shipping not only moves people and goods across the world‘s oceans; it has also shaped the formation of many different museum collections. At the DSM, the maritime contexts of collecting are particularly tangible: the collection ranges from small sailors‘ souvenirs from distant lands to large ships that tell stories of both local history and globalisation. For me, this diversity makes the DSM a special place where museum work and research come together and where I can work directly with collections. Here, I have found a research environment within an interdisciplinary team, in which we explore the stories of the collection using a variety of methods and together with different actors, telling them in many voices."
