Zum Inhalt
David Abbey Paige (1901–1978), artist on Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd's Second Antarctic Expedition (1933–1935), sketched his impressions of Antarctica and painted one hundred pastels. They reflect the magic of colours in Antarctic regions and were last shown in America in the late 1930's. Sixty pastels which today are housed in the Byrd Polar Research Center Archives in Columbus, Ohio, are put on display in Europe for the first time.

Along with these paintings of high artistic quality 15 sketches, a further four pastels – provided by the artist's family – and a number of rare photographs of the Byrd expedition are shown in an exhibition at the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven and published in this book.
